On the eastern side of the river Ganga-Hooghly, this town enjoys the lush green of nature and the exotics of art engraved in its innumerable numbers of century-old temples dotting the area. With a population touching almost one and a half lakhs, Halisahar has fast changed into an industrial town with its jute and paper mills from a historic educational and cultural centre. Haisahar is blessed with the birth of many great people. Sripad Ishwar Puri, the guru of the famous Vaishnav Bhakti movement leader Chaitannya Dev Mahapravu born here. The Saint poet Ramprasad Sen, pioneer of Ramprasadi Bhakti geeti and famous Sakta ascetic born here. This is the birthplace of very charitable Lokmata Rani Rashmoni of Janbazar and Indian freedom-fighter Bipin Bihari Ganguly. It was also the earlier jagirdari of the famous Sabarna Roy Choudhury family and the home of this family\\\'s initiator Majumdar Lakshmi Kanta Gangopadhyay. Halisahar was once the city of palaces - Haveli Sahar, a cultural and educational pot. It is still a temple town and a prized heritage spot. A peace abode within nature\\\'s lap, nothing makes it more of a treasure than its very hearty citizens.
