            As of 2001 India census, Halisahar had a population of 1,24,479 with a population density of 13,771 per sq. km. The current decadal population growth rate is 22.5% on an average. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Halisahar has an average literacy rate of 75.87%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80.90%, and female literacy is 69.99%. In Halisahar, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. The male population is 67,124 and female population is 57,355 (a very healthy 46.08% of total population). There are 31,550 full time employed male and 3,857 part time employed male. For the female, these numbers are 2,629 and 1,128 respectively. There is 31.58% population leaving Below Poverty Level. The slum dwelling population is 58.10%. The Gender Development Index 2005 states the rates as Male: 0.38% and Female: 0.93%. The overall status regarding their languages are 20.30% are Bengali speaking, 26.90% Hindi speaking, 7.40% Urdu speaking, 2.50% Oriya speaking and the rest speaks other languages
